CAROL STRUVE

ARTIST STATEMENT

"I want to illuminate things with my mind and to project their reflections upon other minds...." Baudelaire

For as long as my memory holds, I have been influenced by the power of natural light and its ability to continually alter perceptions of my environments, natural and manmade.

While tending or walking about my gardens I witness colorful blossoms illuminated by the radiant morning light, dancing about in the gentle breeze. Hours spent looking, touching, smelling, hearing and watching in awe of nature’s way. This creates is a visual memory that carries me through the day.

The encompassing and lasting sensory impressions of light, shapes, patterns, textures and colors guide me through the process of making each image, that which is a reflection of the collective associations, experiences and memories of tending my gardens.
